July Apprentice of the Month
Howie Plummer
We are pleased to announce that the winner of the LDN Apprentice of the Month for July is Howie Plummer @ Crown Commercial Service.
Nominated by LDN Skills Coach Frazer Worthington, Howie is nearing the final stages of his Digital Learner Designer apprenticeship. Throughout his journey, he’s taken initiative to explore new tools and share his learnings with colleagues, helping to enhance the delivery of digital learning across the organisation.
Check out all the awesome nominations we received in July, as well as Howie’s winning nomination below.
Howie’s Skills Coach:
Howie has consistently delved deep into the Digital Learning Designer process and seeks out ways to improve the digital learning at the organisation. He researched and developed new prototypes to improve the system’s training for the organisation. Stakeholders were so impressed with the innovative approach that he was asked to present to the wider organisation. He has pushed himself to learn new tools and started to share these within the organisation to elevate the digital learning training. Also, Howie is a collaborative and determined individual who has been successful in working with a wide range of stakeholders.
Howie’s Line Manager:
How have they improved/impacted the business and the team since they started their apprenticeship?
Howie has started to think differently and now has more responsibility for activities in the team that previously he did not have. Hopefully, the scope of these areas of responsibility will grow as he completes his apprenticeship.
What three words best describe them?
Reflective - Howie does like to take time to assimilate information in an ideal world.
Diplomatic - Howie is definitely more measured and tactful in his approach to things than some of the more outspoken/opinionated team members!
Warmth - Howie brings humour, support and a genuine sense of warmth to the team that is appreciated.
An example of an outstanding piece of work, project or task they have worked on.
Howie supported a piece of work for an external delivery partner at short notice, which was well received. For Howie, this was pushing him outside his natural comfort zone and he really made a difference as a result of stepping up in this instance.
What Howie said about winning Apprenticeship of the Month.
"I'm absolutely delighted to receive this award as apprentice of the month! It's a big commitment to take on an apprenticeship alongside day-to-day work, and to receive recognition for my efforts is hugely gratifying, especially given the calibre of my fellow apprentices. I have to give a big shout-out to my skills coach, Frazer, who has guided me along the way, and the coaches who've delivered live sessions to us. I thank my manager Janet who's supported me and allowed me the bandwidth to devote the necessary attention to it all. And I can't leave out my fellow apprentices - I've picked up great ideas from so many of you, and I'm hugely grateful to you all for that!"
Here’s what was said about the other brilliant nominees:
Annie Pearce @ SeaSalt
Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability
Annie has been a phenomenal success at SeaSalt, where she has taken each challenge head-on with an abundance of enthusiasm and a level of professionalism that shines through. Annie helped launch the impact report under the new branding style and has identified anomalies within the data she has analysed and identified cost reductions for the business. Annie has supported, collaborated, and ultimately delivered fundamental elements of company reports with a quiet confidence that is extremely valued within her team. She has a diligent and proactive mindset and a kind and supportive nature that have been extremely welcomed by several senior members of the team. Annie has volunteered for and helped organise the Cornwall Pride event, supporting the local LGBTQ+ community and raising money for Cornwall Pride through their products.
Joe Kersey @ Amazon
Multi-Channel Marketer
Joe has shown outstanding growth and impact as he nears his end point assessment, consistently impressing with strong ownership, a proactive mindset, and executive presence. In the past two months, he’s led Iceland’s merchandising operations, supported the EU team, especially DE merchants and tackled complex 1MMS/MFG issues. Amid organisational shifts, Joe adapted quickly, expanded his scope, and led with calm confidence. As he deepens ownership of the Iceland account, a key opportunity lies in amplifying his voice in forums like the UK WBR. His dedication and leadership make him a worthy candidate for apprentice of the month.
Karen Linaker @ Wiltshire Council
Community Engagement Academy
Karen is hard-working and dedicated. She has a remarkable thirst for knowledge and reflects on learning to strengthen best practices within her team and beyond. Karen stays on top of her training plan and goes the extra mile with evidence pieces, incorporating video clips to bring these to life and capture impact. Karen's journal entries show strong links to the KSBs and highlight the wide-scale impact she creates. Karen engages in all Masterclasses and creates a safe space for others to share ideas. Despite balancing an extremely busy role with the apprenticeship, Karen has recently given her time to support with sharing feedback on the Community Engagement Academy online content to support learning for future cohorts! It would be fantastic for Karen to be recognised and appreciated through this award!
Charlotte Rance @ Kent Medway NHS Trust
Digital Learning Designer
Charlotte manages to juggle a range of busy projects and site visits, whilst keeping on top of her apprenticeship training plan. She is always happy to contribute in live group sessions and Dev Days, offering NHS and tech-related suggestions. Her sunny sense of humour keeps her going, and she accepts that she can’t understand everything immediately but calmly carries on experimenting along the way. She was convinced she would never get any relevant evidence for her AM1 but has now completed her first portfolio piece. Well done Charlotte!
Ruby Wilkes @ Amazon
Multi-Channel Marketer
Ruby has been one of those unsung superstars on her programme. Always pushing, never complaining, soaking up everything she can and applying it, and her journey has been amazing. Feedback from her Line Manager, Julia, highlights Ruby’s ‘natural gift’ for marketing, above what can be taught. Ruby is also incredibly humble, will probably not see this nomination coming, but her work ethic, her accountability, her curiosity and how she takes on task after task and continually completes everything to a really high standard are some of the reasons why I would like to nominate Ruby for AotM this month. A really amazing apprentice that deserves the recognition for her awesomeness.
Raveena Jutley @ Bloomsbury
Publishing Professional
Raveena is revelling in the apprenticeship! She has been working hard in her role, picking it up very quickly, and impressing her team. She speaks up in group sessions, offering thoughtful opinions and asking good questions. Her line manager’s feedback is full of praise for Raveena’s positive, enthusiastic and proactive attitude. Raveena has made great strides with her apprenticeship work, regularly sending in portfolio pieces and keeping up with the training plan. Her enthusiasm is such that I have already coopted her into the next LDN Ambassador role, as she embodies the passion we love to see in an apprentice!
