Why This Elective Matters’

Sustainability only delivers value when it is translated into everyday decisions, processes and behaviours. In many organisations, the gap between strategy and delivery creates frustration, wasted effort and greenwashing risk. This elective focuses on the role of sustainability champions and operational leaders who sit closest to real data, real constraints and real trade-offs. It is designed to help learners move from intention to action, building confidence to embed sustainability into daily work in ways that create genuine commercial, environmental and social value.

  • Learners develop four connected operational capabilities:

    • Opportunity identification: how to spot sustainability risks and opportunities within everyday processes, roles and KPIs using practical diagnostic tools.

    • Business case development: how to build clear, proportionate business cases that connect sustainability initiatives to cost, risk, compliance, efficiency and ESG outcomes.

    • Embedding in practice: how to integrate sustainability into behaviours, processes, decisions, data and culture, rather than treating it as an add-on.

    • Clear communication: how to communicate sustainability internally using data-driven narratives and ethical AI, without oversimplification or hype.

  • This elective uses a distinctly applied approach. Learners analyse poor practice in everyday scenarios, diagnose common operational and cultural mistakes, and assess their impact on progress, credibility and engagement. They map sustainability touchpoints in their own function, prioritise initiatives using structured tools, and build a tailored sustainability champion’s playbook that can be used immediately in their role.

  • Learners leave with practical frameworks, templates and habits they can apply straight away, including opportunity-spotting tools, a repeatable business case structure, embedding actions and communication templates. They gain confidence to act on sustainability in credible, proportionate and value-focused ways.

  • This elective is designed for managers, team leaders and sustainability champions across all functions who want to make sustainability work in practice, regardless of prior financial or technical expertise.
